Born and raised in North Carolina, Steven Hancock grew up with two unique passions: history, and film. Although he majored in history, he has always been fascinated by the world of acting and filmmaking. He began his film work as an actor, first starring in Joey Martin’s Entangled in 2012, followed by the WS TV-13 documentary Merger: Making the Twin City, released on PBS in 2013. Recent acting credits include the JD Mayo’s The Protector, Joey Martin’s Levon, and the documentary series Legends & Lies: The Patriots for Fox News. He’ll next be seen as a Union Soldier in JD Mayo’s Fire in the Forest, scheduled to release in 2019.

In 2012, Steven made his directorial debut with the Unit Recruitment Film for the Southern Piedmont Historical Reenacting Society, of which he was a member. Released the following year, the success of that project led to a passion for writing and directing. He followed that up with the sci-fi fan production Doctor Who: A Dame to Kill, which he co-wrote (With Lila Wilde), Produced and Directed. Released in 2014, the episode has been well-received, leading to the web series “Doctor Who: The Ginger Chronicles.” Steven co-wrote (With Rebecca Larken and Lila Wilde) and co-directed (With Larken) the second episode, A Loud Hush, which was released in 2016 to similar acclaim.

Following the second episode of TGC, Steven left the web series to pursuit other filmmaking opportunities. He worked with his fellow filmmaker JD Mayo, on the historical drama Our War. Steven co-wrote and produced the short and portrayed the role of Billy. Released in 2017, the film has won five awards on the festival circuit and received praise from the North Carolina Civil War & Reconstruction Center for its depiction of a little-known chapter of American history.

In 2018, Steven wrote and directed two short films: A Grim Dinner, and A Too-Close Encounter, both made with assistance from the Triad Film Collaborative. He's currently in pre-production on the World War II short The Freezing Hell, and wrote the script for the upcoming Christmas feature, The Renegade. He's also prepping two feature films: The Civil War drama The Fountain by the River, and the historical romance/mystery Laura. He currently resides in Greensboro, North Carolina.
